Boston Area Spinners and Dyers

About BASD

WHAT IS BASD?

BASD stands for Boston Area Spinners & Dyers. The group was founded in 1970 as a means of exchanging knowledge and ideas related to all aspects of spinning and dyeing.

MEMBERSHIP

Members come from throughout the Boston metropolitan area. Within the group are experts and novices involved in a wide range of fiber arts, including knitting, weaving, crocheting, lace making and felting, as well as spinning and dyeing. New members (both spinners and dyers) are always welcome! You do not need to be an expert spinner or dyer.

The annual membership fee is $25.00.

The membership flier is available here.

MEETINGS

BASD usually meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month from September to May, except in December, when it usually meets the first Tuesday.

The format of the meetings varies. Some are in-house, sharing the collective knowledge of the group. At others there are speakers, some of them widely known in their field, others known more locally to us. Many of the meetings are hands-on, and at others we often see slides or demonstrations. We also regularly do a show and tell. We have potluck suppers in December and May. At our May meeting we also unveil the results of the year-long fiber exchange.

DIRECTIONS

Meetings are held at Wolbach Farm, Sudbury Valley Trustees, 18 Wolbach Rd., Sudbury, MA 01776.

From Intersection of Route 128/95 and Route 20:
Go west on Route 20 to Wayland Center which is the intersection of 20 and Route 27. Take Route 27 north towards Sudbury approximately 1.5 miles. Cross town line into Sudbury, crossing over the Sudbury River. Third road on the left is Wolbach Road, which is marked by SVT sign. Parking in lot just before the house on the right.

From 495:
Take Route 62 east through Hudson. Continue straight when Route 62 goes north (towards Stow): this becomes State Road and then Hudson Road when you enter Sudbury. From the Hudson rotary to Sudbury Center is approximately 4.5 miles. Route 27 merges onto Hudson Road and goes through Sudbury Center. Continue approximately 1.0 mile on Route 27 after the Center; Wolbach Road will be on your right as you head downhill into a straightaway. If you cross the river, you have gone too far. Parking is in lot just before the house.

WORKSHOPS

Throughout the year, BASD sponsors workshops. Additionally, many of the meetings include presentations by designers, vendors or others involved in the processing of fiber into yarn.

LIBRARY

The library is available to all members of BASD in good standing. We have many excellent books, videos, DVDs, and workshop materials available for loan. The library is located in the room beyond the meeting room on the left hand wall and is open during guild meetings.

A $20 deposit will be collected by the librarian or treasurer before the loan of the first item for the year. Two items may be borrowed at a time. All items must be logged on the clipboard before borrowing. Some precious materials may require a deposit equivalent to the replacement cost. All such materials will be marked.

Items should be returned at the following meeting. If you will not be able to return materials at the following meeting, please make arrangements with the BASD librarian for return of the materials.

No materials circulate during the summer. If all items are returned by the May meeting, you will receive your deposit back by mail in the early summer. If library materials are not returned, the deposit will be kept and borrowing privileges will be revoked, until return of the materials has occurred.

  1. Louet spinning wheel - model S 10
