Fiber Blending

January 24, 2012, 7:30 pm

Wolbach Farm, 18 Wolbach Rd., Sudbury, MA

Join us to investigate blending wool, silk, alpaca, and mohair. We will discuss the reasons for blending and what each fiber brings to the blend, then get down to trying some out for ourselves. Bring your enthusiasm, your wheel or spindle, hand cards, including extras to share if you have them. The BASD drum carder will also be available. Bring a fiber blended show and tell, if you'd like, also. There will be a $2 materials fee for the fiber and handout.

Swap

For those participating in the alpaca blending swap, bring your spun yarn for the second portion of the swap. We will put our labeled yarn back in the swap bag and draw again for the yarn-to-finished-object portion of the swap.

October Meeting

Color Blending

October 25, 2011, 7:30 pm

Wolbach Farm, 18 Wolbach Rd., Sudbury, MA

Join us for an evening of color blending and spinning. We will discuss color theory and then jump in, blending colors and spinning them up to see what effects we can get. We will come back together at the end of the evening to show off our mixes. Packets of 1 ¼ oz of red, blue, yellow, black and white wool will be available for a materials fee of $2.

Bring:

$2, if you want the packet of fiber the evening lesson is based on

Your hand cards, if you have them

Your spinning wheel or drop spindle

Scotch tape

A pencil or pen

Please bring some extra hand cards, if you have them. A drum carder will be available for those who need it. Also, if you do not want to participate in the color blending, feel free to bring your wheel or spindle and just spin and listen (or help others!)

Alpaca for our exchange will also be available for sale at the beginning of the meeting. Please remember to add 2 oz. of your own fiber and place it and the alpaca in a non-see-through bag before the exchange. At the end of the evening, we will collect the bags and draw for the first part of the exchange.

September Meeting

Spin-In, Show-and-Tell, and Hand Carding
Tuesday, September 20, 2011, 7:30 pm

Wolbach Farm, 18 Wolbach Rd., Sudbury, Mass.

Bring your enthusiasm, your wheel or spindle, finished objects or yarns (new or old), works
in progress, travelogues, and inspirations to our first meeting of the year. We’ll introduce
ourselves and settle in for a good visit and spin.

Also bring hand cards and some spare fiber for carding if you have them. Since our
theme this year is blending, we will have a review of hand carding at this first meeting, so
that everyone can be up-to-speed. Even if you don’t need the review, please bring your hand
cards if you feel comfortable sharing them, so that others can try the process.
We will have the BASD drum carder at the blending programs, for those who do not own
or do not prefer hand cards. Everyone will be able to participate in these programs.

Alpaca fiber for the swap will be available for sale, at cost, at the September as well as
the October meetings.

May Annual Potluck and Exchange

Let’s get together for our final meeting before the summer hiatus.

Along with the always delicious potluck, we will have a chance to see the wide range of
transformations that our members have wrought on the fibers we all began
with in the fiber exchange in October, and everyone who participated will go home
with a finished object. It’s a treat to see the creative ideas that our members come
up with. Everyone who participated in the fiber exchange, make sure to bring
your finished object!

For the potluck, please bring:
• An appetizer, main dish (veggie or non), or dessert, enough to feed
several people. (There are kitchen facilities if you will need to heat up
your dish.)
• Any serving utensils necessary for your dish
• If you can, please bring some drinks, too!
• Also, don't forget to bring your own dishes/utensils.

At this last meeting of the season, we will be finalizing the new board for next
year. If you would like to participate in the board, please let us know, whether
before the meeting or at it.
