Dyed in the
Wool
Intrepidly tending sheep in
all seasons on her New England farm provides Barbara Parry with a unique vantage
point for studying nature’s colors. In her slide presentation, she will share
how, with help from a digital camera that she carries everywhere, she takes her
color cues from nature, translating them into a palette for her hand dyed yarns.
Learn tips for using digital imagery as an inspirational springboard for your
own color work in dyeing fiber.
Barbara
Parry’s 220 acre sheep farm in the
Berkshire foothills of western Massachusetts is home to her dye studio where she
dyes the yarns produced from her flock and markets them under her farm’s label,
Foxfire Fiber and Designs (www.foxfirefiber.com). Her
hand-dyed yarns and fibers have been featured in Wild Fibers magazine and
in several knitting books, and her first book Teach Yourself Visually
Hand-Dyeing was released by Wiley Publishing in May 2009. Barbara
chronicles life on her farm in her blog: Sheep Gal (www.sheepgal.com) and is a free-lance contributor to fiber
arts publications. She enjoys teaching others to spin and dye, and loves
exploring new avenues in fiber arts.
