Peruvian Knitting Workshop, March 19th

Peruvian Knitting Techniques with Mary Jane Mucklestone
will be held

March 19, 2011
10 a.m. to 5 p.m.(including one-hour lunch break)

This workshop presents colorful knitting the Andean way! We will begin with the sweet Andean checkerboard
pattern to develop our Andean knitting skills, with the yarn tensioned around our necks. We will learn to wind
color bobbins and use them in beginning our intarsia hat. We will learn to make the scalloped punta edging,
which can be sewn on later if desired or used for a charming friendship bracelet. If time permits, we will learn to
make grutas, strings of popcorns that can later be applied as an embellishment for many different projects.
Come prepared to flex your brains and manipulate your fingers in challenging new ways!

Yarn: Light worsted weight yarn in the following amounts:
Intarsia Hat—150 yards of main color; choose the very darkest, or very lightest color in your group, black or
white preferred; 50 yds each of 5 to 8 additional colors.
Puntas Scalloped Edging—10 yds each of 3 different colors
Grutas popcorns—Assorted lengths of various colors

Needles: 1 each, size 6 (4mm) and 7 (4.5mm) 16-inch circular needles; 1 set size 7 (4.75 mm) double-pointed
needles.

Hook: Size F or G crochet hook
Notions: Scissors, stitch markers, tapestry needle, sticky notes or magnetic board with magnetic ruler, pencil
and notepaper, colored pencils to match your yarns if desired.

Homework: With smaller needle and main color, CO 120 sts using long-tail method. Place marker, join without
twisting, for working in the round. Purl one round.

May 27 Meeting

Annual End-of-Year Potluck
Wednesday May 27, 7:00 pm
Wolbach Farm, Sudbury, MA

Let’s get together for our final meeting before the summer hiatus. Along with
the always delicious potluck, we will have a chance to see the wide range of
transformations that our members have wrought on the fibers we all began
with in the fiber exchange, and everyone who participated will go home with a
finished object. It’s a treat to see the creative ideas that our members come up
with.

For the potluck, please bring:
• An appetizer, main dish (veggie or non), or dessert, enough to feed several
people. (There are kitchen facilities if you will need to heat up your dish.)
• Any serving utensils necessary for your dish
• If you can, please bring some drinks, too!
• Also, don't forget to bring your own dishes/utensils.

Everyone who participated in the fiber exchange, make sure to bring your
finished object.

At this final meeting of the year, we will be finalizing the new board for next
year. If you would like to participate in the board, please let us know, whether
before the meeting or at it.
We are especially looking for a BASD historian to document our adventures and
remind us of how far we have come. Anyone interested?

Penny Lacroix of the Westford Museum will bring her great wheel. She will talk about spinning in colonial times, demonstrate the great wheel and give us all a chance to try it out.
