March 18 Meeting
We are pleased to have
Jonathan and Sheila Bosworth presenting our program for March 18. I’m sure you all know of them and their
Journey Wheel, a modernized version of the ancient Indian charkha. Jonathan, who comes from a long line of
woodworkers, made his first charkha 40 years ago winning a prize for his design
and workmanship. He continued his
interest in making tools for spinners by making a variety of lovely
spindles. He will bring spindles and
charkhas for demonstration and sale.
Sheila learned to spin “in
self-defense” and is rarely seen without a spindle nearby. She is a trained musician specializing in
Early Music played on the recorder. She
also quilts and makes historical costumes.
Now she helps Jonathan in the shop making spindles.
They will talk about the
history of spindle spinning and how Jonathan got into making spindles. They will demonstrate how to use the
charkha. We will all get a chance to try
them out so don’t miss this special program!
